Nic Compton’s Notable Boats is a stunning new intimate window into the world of sailing with stunning illustrations bringing boating history and fiction alive!
Nic Compton is a writer/photographer specialising in sailing - but with a keen interest in environmental issues. After an idyllic childhood on boats in the Mediterranean, and a decade or so working as a journeyman ship wright, he studied Journalism at City University, eventually working on the Arts desk at the Independent newspaper.
Since then he has travelled the world as a writer/photographer, contributing to a variety of magazines, and has written 14 books, including a collection of sea stories entitled Voices From the Sea and the popular miscellany Why Sailors Can’t Swim. He currently lives by the River Dart in Devon from where he sails a Romilly 22 (a ‘modern lugger’).
A beautifully bound edition filled with colour illustrations, Notable Boats explores in fascinating detail 40 boats and their stories filled with adventure, calamity and bravery. From celebrity yachts to trawlers, canoes and fictional ships, this gorgeous tome is the perfect gift for the avid boater.
