We at EXE are specialist sail makers based in Topsham, Exeter, Devon, who also do Sail Repairs, Boat Covers and Marine Canvas Work too. Whether it is computer designed and laser cut sails for your dinghy, racing and cruising boats or a repair job on your sail or canvas – we are the company for you! Our sails are traditionally hand manufactured and have that professional, quality feel to them and we can help you get the right sail for you that suits your particular vessel as they can be designed and manufactured to your specifications.
Our company was first founded in August 2013 by Sam Woolner, Mac McDonald, Chris Scanes and Pete Handscomb. Chris in particular, has been serving the local and national sailing community for more than 40 years and Pete has been making Championship winning sails for dinghies for nearly 40 years too. Combining the whole team’s past experience, we have over 100 years worth under our belts – there really is no other company that compares with the amount of knowledge and experience we have. And we think our reputation reflects just that! In fact most of our work comes from recommendations and repeat work. You can see a huge difference when you get a new sail installed – it will dramatically improve the boats performance and your sailing pleasure – all sailors can appreciate this! When you order a new sail from us, we can work closely with you so you get whatever design or size you require no matter what class, design, variation or age of your boat. We are always keen to do something new and unique too so if you have a bespoke design in mind or a one off project then we are more than happy to help.
We have a specific department that specialises in bespoke canvas work and a wide variety of materials to make our products with including: Acrylic Canvas, PVC, Cotton Canvas, Fire Retardant Fabrics, Polycotton, Nylon, Coated Polyester, and all forms of sail material from Laminate to Dacron. Our materials come in varying colour ranges and in different weights too so if you have a specific vision on how your product will look, then we can create it for you to the right measurements and specifications. Having new canvas work fitted on your boat can not only help in preserving your boat and protecting it from the elements, it will also make a huge difference to the appearance to it on and off the water.
Damage to a sail can be a real nuisance to sailors as they want to get back on the water as soon as possible. We guarantee that our repair service will last and last. Our team are all highly skilled and trained to the highest degree in sail making – there really isn’t a lot they haven’t seen and repaired. We offer a full valeting and overhaul service for all Sails and Canvas Work including an inspection of the item in question for wear and tear, as well as carrying out repairs. Need a emergency repair? Then we also offer an overnight and weekend repair service where we can usually get your sails repaired for the next morning’s racing or even the next high tide.
Our services don’t stop at the marine industry – we also manufacture a wide range of products which include everything from awnings for local shops to search and rescue equipment, canvas roofs, outdoor spaces to whatever else you may dream up!
