International Boatbuilding Training College
Based in the coastal town of Lowestoft, on the edge of The Broads the IBTC is ideally placed to promote the craft of boatbuilding. With the towns rich maritime past. We offer a variety of boatbuilding/maintenance and woodworking courses for people looking for a career in the industry as well as individuals wanting to develop existing interests and skills or develop new ones.
We work with students of all ages and focus on individual needs, building confidence and skills, working towards your desired goal.

We have been training boat builders since 1975 with a reputation for quality. Joinery and boatbuilding courses from a day to a year prepare students for the marine industry, with transferable skills opening up careers in green frame timber construction, conservation building, and furniture making and providing maintenance skills for owners of wooden vessels.

The International Boatbuilding Training College in Lowestoft is also a recognised RYA Training Centre and is certified to provide training and certification in the following shore based RYA theory courses. We operate all year, and many of the courses are available as evening and weekend classes.

Full Time Courses at the IBTC

Boatbuilding
Our flagship course leads to the internationally recognised IBTC Diploma in boatbuilding along with City and Guilds 2463 level 3. This course covers all the skills required to build and maintain boats.

Furniture Making & Design
This extensive course is aimed at teaching all the necessary skills and elements of joinery and furniture making, to enable you to go on to both design and construct your own, individual items of furniture.

Part Year Courses

Woodworking Skills
An intensive course focusing on a range of woodworking skills suitable for all including those with no previous experience.

Build your own boat
At the end of this course you will have completed and launched a boat of up to 5m in length.

Small Boatbuilding
Small Boatbuilding course starts with four weeks practical woodworking to learn the necessary skills necessary to build your own boat.
