Nigel Clegg Associates

We at Nigel Clegg Associates are the UK’s foremost yacht coatings and osmosis specialists. From the smallest painting defect to osmosis treatment failures or major filling and fairing works, we can provide an objective assessment of paint condition, together with a detailed report with professional photography. Dispute resolution and expert witness work is also undertaken. So if you have a problem with the paint drying on your boat or have any other problem, then our company is for you!

We offer a comprehensive technical consultancy service to Boatyards, Shipyards, Surveyors, Boat Owners and Insurers, and we will gladly examine your vessel for you and see what the problem is. We can examine any sized boat from a small dingy to a super yacht. Our services include a detailed investigation of yacht coatings faults and failures, application issues, coatings specifications, supervision and inspection, as well as providing recommendations for remedial work where appropriate.

Do you need a Moisture Meter? We carry a wide range of test and surveying equipment, encompassing the complete lineup of Tramex and Sovereign marine moisture meters, as well as Cygnus and Tritex ultrasound metal thickness gauges, Barcol Hardness Testers, and more. Our team is well-versed in the usage of these tools and can offer expert advice on their application.

Founder Nigel Clegg has a vast amount of knowledge and experience under his belt he is a regular lecturer at the University of Plymouth’s now defunct Small Craft Surveying courses and lectures at other venues too. He has even written a book simply titled ‘How to Paint your Boat’ which includes a definitive guide to the many different types of coatings now available. He has also previously worked for the International Paint Company – now known as Akzo Nobel – for nearly sixteen years before starting up ‘Nigel Clegg Associates’. He learned so much there that he feels he can take on any challenge that comes his way.

Please do not hesitate to get in contact with us for further information on any of our services – we would love to hear from you!
